W.D. O'Connell 17 Year Old PX Series

A 17 Year Old double distilled single malt which was distilled at the Cooley Distillery in 2002 and bottled by W.D. O'Connell Whiskey Merchants. Limited to 370 bottles and was initially matured for seventeen years in first fill bourbon barrels before being finished for six months in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. Well-rounded flavours of red berry coulis, light spice and some oak tannins.

This fantastic single cask release was initially aged in a first-fill bourbon cask for 13 years and then transferred into a small Pedro Ximenez cask for a further 7 years of ageing. The tiny PX cask was re-coopered from staves recovered from solera sherry casks and offered up some great flavours to compliment the mature malt whiskey. The whiskey has flavours of stewed rhubarb, blackberry, apple crumble and exotic spices on the nose with a super rich and syrupy palate with hints of dark chocolate and molasses complemented by a lingering finish with subtle hints of oak and cocoa.Just 55 bottles were released.Maturation: Aged for 13 years in a first fill bourbon cask then is partly decanted in Pedro Ximenez barrel made from solera cask staves for an added 7 years...
