Writers Tears is a very interesting whiskey. The cask strength version is made in batches, this one 1,200 bottles strong. Bernard Walsh, of the Walsh Distillery in Carlow, hand picks casks of bourbon matured malt (60%) and pot still (40%) and vats them together. It's classified as a blend, but doesn't contain any grain whiskey. There is a 40% version to that's well worth trying, but this incarnation was bottled at 53%. The sources of the whiskeys in the vatting are Midleton and Bushmills, and it's easy to work out which came from where.....
